While I Breathe, I Hope- New Poem by Me (B.T.)
People always tell me things to get me down
When I rise from adversity, they want to frown
They’d rather see me poor than be a king with a crown
But while I breathe, I hope
Family is supposed to be behind what you do
However, there are relatives that seem to doubt you
Want to judge somebody and don’t have the right to
But while I breathe, I hope
Money remains an issue in the world today
We need to use it better than just throw it away
Every time we make money, people take it away
But while I breathe, I hope
The world is changing, but racism still exists
Handcuffs remain tight around the Black man’s wrists
So, in the meantime, Black people, raise your fists
And while I breathe, I hope
Underdogs were made so they can persevere
Ignorance looks away like they don’t belong here
And when they overcome, ignorance turns to fear
Because while I breathe, I hope
When I want things clear, people give me static
They act like they’re cool, but become problematic
It shouldn’t be this way, but it’s somewhat automatic
But while I breathe, I hope
Women say that a good man is hard to find
But it seems like the definition of love is blind
Hustling for love makes us stay on the grind
And while I breathe, I hope
Trying to maintain my composure is hard
The same way that trying to stay alive is hard
Making sure that I never choose to drop my guard
And while I breathe, I hope
Let me know what you think of this poem.
Original poem by me. B.T. out!!
