Check out my new poem, Man Up:
Man Up
Brothers walk around in the hood so upset
Trying to be the man, they aren’t grown up yet
They’re trying to explode, they aren’t blown up yet
And want to speak the truth, but the words are suspect
‘Cause there’s no trust yet for guys when they lie
Instead of being speechless, they fail to comply
Can’t look them in the eye because they feel so small
And try to touch the sky, but they’re not so tall
See, brothers look at the hood like it’s all they know
But all they know is that they want to get that dough
Selling bricks all around instead of reading a book
And wonder why people looking at them like they’re crooks
Don’t portray yourself to be something you’re not
Walking up in the clubs, talking about what you got
And end up getting shot, trying to wonder why
Acting bad, telling people that they’re ready to die
You must really be high to have that thought in your brain
And looking for all the girls to get blinded by the chain
Instead, they walking past you with such disdain
Seeing through all the deception and the fact that you’re vain
Brothers need to see and understand their role
No need to act young when you’re game is old
Stop acting like a kid with the games you play
Because no one is falling for the act you display
Man up in 2009!
